Low iron glass delivers maximum clarity and color neutrality. It elevates light transmission and presents views that are true to life. Manufactured using a proprietary process, quality materials, and low iron content, iron glass is noticeably clearer and more color-neutral than standard clear glass.
Northwestern Glass Fab offers custom low iron glass for a wide range of applications in both residential and commercial properties. If you are a glass dealer, designer, or architect looking for ultra-clear glass design, contact us today.
How Low Iron Glass is Created
Manufacturers create low iron glass by reducing the amount of iron normally found in clear glass. Modifying the iron content increases light transparency by up to 6 percent.
Therefore, architects and designers prefer that glass fabricators use low iron glass when color-matching. If you prefer to order the glass without color-matching, you have the option to choose plain clear low iron glass.
Low Iron Glass vs. Regular Glass
Standard clear glass is not the clearest type of glass we fabricate. While regular clear glass does not have a high iron content, it is still higher than low iron glass. It is the iron
that causes clear glass to have a slightly greenish tint. This green color is especially noticeable
around the edge of the glass.
If you’re looking to have the glass back-painted or coated a specific color, it can be difficult to match the specific color you’re looking for. For this reason, we typically recommend low iron glass for these applications instead.
Low Iron Glass
Low iron glass is more transparent than regular glass, because the majority of the green tint has been removed.
Since the edges are much than edges on standard clear glass, you can use it for a wider range of applications where glass clarity is essential for the overall design.
The Fabrication Process
We can deliver the glass to you fabricated, polished, tempered, etched, or laminated - whatever you prefer. Low iron glass offers a broad spectrum of decorative and functional applications. We recommend using low iron glass to allow for undistorted and true representations of color in
Applications of Low Iron Glass

● Shower doors
● Display cabinets
● Store fixtures
Benefits of Low Iron Glass
Low Iron glass offers you the highest level of clarity available. That is why low-iron glass is a popular choice for business owners and homeowners alike. Some of the advantage of low iron glass include:
● Exceptional Clarity | Iron glass provides an unprecedented option for commercial and residential applications, offering brilliant clarity and true-to-life viewing that conventional glass can’t match.
● Higher Light Transmissions | When your design calls for optimized transmission of natural light, low iron glass offers maximized transparency with 6 percent higher visible light transmittance than conventional clear glass. It provides sparkling clarity and undistorted transmission of color.
● Colorless Appearance | Low iron glass is colorless. The green cast inherent to other clear glass types is not present. It is perfect for applications where transparency and purity of color are desired.
● Great for Painted Glass | If you think the natural tint of glass may interfere with your painted glass project, low iron glass will not interfere with your colors since there is no green tint.
